CitySingers of Hartford will explore this sacred tradition and trace its evolution from ancient roots. Our program will not only explore the broad spectrum of Celtic music by celebrated Irish composers such as Turlough O'Carolan, Sean O'Riada, and Michael McGlynn but also melodies originating in the Celtic region of Galicia (northern Spain), Norway and other parts of Europe. Instrumental tunes and accompaniments (including reels and jigs!) will feature Celtic musicians known throughout our region for their mastery of Irish harp, wooden flute, fiddle, guitar, mandolin, concertina, bodhrán, double bass, pipe organ and highland pipes. In addition, devotional poetry about the rhythms of daily life will enhance the multi-dimensional experience for descendants from this heritage and those entranced by the Celtic culture.
